Bring It On!

Wow. That was fast. It seems like just yesterday we were saying "Goodbye" and "Happy Summer" as we left our fabulous Writing Institute at the end of June. I hope the month of July gave you rest and relaxation and that you are ready to start staff development tomorrow.

Getting ready for a new school year brings me much anxiety; I tend to get bogged down in the details of decorating and planning and lose sight of the BIG PICTURE: KIDS. In reality, my kids aren't going to care about the color of border that I choose or how many posters are hung on the wall. Of course, we want our classrooms and libraries to look inviting and fun, but all that really matters is that our hearts are ready to meet the fabulous group of kids that we will have the pleasure of teaching this next school year. So as you sit in those meetings this next week and think about all of the things you SHOULD be doing, take a deep breath and relax. It will all get done, and it is going to be a GREAT year!

Please let us know how you are doing as the school year gets started.

You Did It!

It has been a pleasure spending the last 12 days with such fun, energetic, insightful educators. Thank you for your time and dedication to the writing process. MISD is lucky to have such wonderful teachers in its ranks. But the truly lucky ones are your students.

Now go forth and enjoy your summer--relax, rejuvenate, refresh--because August will be here before we know it. Don't forget to curl up with a good book and continue to carve out some writing time from your busy lives. We hope that you have gotten into a writing habit these past 12 days, and please don't let that habit die.

Hopefully, we have planted the writing seed inside your soul. Now it's your job to go out and nourish that seed so that your writing lives will flourish. You owe this to yourselves and to your students.

Let us know when you are published! Oops. Pardon our "be" verb.

May the PROCESS be with you!
